Starting to Render

So how do you like the new music? It is easy to change it back if I want to. I found a guy who custom wrote it for my short(actually thanks goes to Kenshi). It is very different but it dynamically changes with the emotions of the characters which is cool.

Also check out my glass! I am really happy with it, I haven't done much rendereing before but I had fun with this.

looks very cool brandon. I love the glass!

I'm not sure how much you've worked on the lighting... but the only comment I would make is to make sure you have dark dark areas and other areas with spotlights. In general when I start lighting a shot I turn off all the lights in the scene and then start one light at a time (key) (filler) all that good stuff.

Overall it's looking amazing.. and when really counts is the animation and that's solid as a rock man. Keep it up!

I can't believe you're almost done with classes and your short film! That's just crazy!

rendering of the bottle is great. Not too sure how it is gonna fit with the rendering of the rest.

Regarding the music, I prefer the previous one. It was much more entertaining and the instruments sounded much better. On the new ones it looks like a cheap 1985 synthetizer and it is very dull.

I might need to give more reasons why I don't like that soundtrack.

First of all the first one was just perfect ;-) it was snappy, entertaining, and didn't distract from the action.

The new one does exactly the opposite to the extent that some of the shots now don't feel right. I think that the rythm of the music overpowers the beats of the animation, making the latter seem to be out of sync.

Also the new soundtrack doesn't look very consistent. It looks like a cut and paste more than something done on purpose. Around 377 I don't understand why the beat breaks then starts again the same pattern few frames before without anything new happening on the screen.

On 962 an instrument seems to be emphasizing the jump of the character but it doesn't happen for the next bounce.

On 188 there are some good ideas but the saxophone doesn't work there. The character is happy, he found a solution to reach the bottle so get something snappier there not a dull saxophone.

Well this is just my opinion, put a post on the forum and ask people what they think.

Thanks for the comments! Yeah I know the lighting is not very good. I have spent alot of time on it and it still doesn't look good. Oh well, it is better than a playblast I think.

Oh, and I think I am gonna go back to the old music. Everyone seems to like it better.

i am glad you are going back to the first soundtrack. I wouldn't worry too much about rendering. The best would be to have at least some sort of Global illumination like Mental Ray and Final gather. Deter Brown recorded a walkthrough i think some time ago. And there is always the option of using GI_Joe

That's great advice olivier. I used the GIJoe lighting rig on just about every render I made. It's a great quick lighting solution if you don't have time or the knowledge to really put into it.

I also agree I like the original music. Glad to hear its back ;)
